Purpose; to turbo boost your recovery
from the trauma of rape or sexual abuse.

About the group

Thrive Groups are delivered in the communities in which you live.

Numbers

Thrive Groups accommodate a maximum of 12 participants per group to ensure maximum participation and interaction.

Duration

They are delivered by two qualified experienced and trauma informed therapists. They are delivered in two- hour sessions with a break for socialising halfway. Each group lasts for 10 weeks and accommodates school holidays and other periods where participants life responsibilities have to take precedence over other commitments.

Why two therapists

One therapist leads the session and the other observes and encourages everyone to share their truth. If someone becomes overwhelmed the second therapist is on hand to take them away from the main group for some individual intervention until they are given the choice to leave that session early or return and participate until the end. Mentoring and coaching takes place to enable the person to return without shame or embarrassment.

Thrive Group develops a sense of community, and all participants are invested in ensuring that everyone gains the maximum benefit from their attendance.

How much does it cost- Each Thrive Group costs Red Kite £3600 to run. These groups are free to participate in, but we ask all potential attendees to commit to attending the sessions and completing the course. We recognise that this is a challenging process for some clients and the therapists are there to listen to concerns and make reasonable adjustments to accommodate participants to ensure maximum participation.

So, what is covered in the sessions- this group is primarily a psycho education group. This means that you will learn how to regulate your emotions and how to identify your feelings and respond appropriately in your daily lives. You will learn about the different types of abuse that was perpetrated on you and you will be supported in your choices about whether on not to pursue your perpetrator/s through the Criminal Justice System

Red Kite’s position is that it is everyone’s duty as a citizen to use the rule of law to prosecute anyone who has acted outside the law to offend against them. However, we recognise that not everyone is able to do this for a variety of legitimate reasons and we will always respect that. We also believe that everyone has the right to change their minds about whether to prosecute when they understand that they will have Red Kite’s support throughout, and we honour their judgement and adjust our input accordingly.

How do I get into a Thrive Group- we think it is necessary to spend some time on the Helpline with our Helpline Volunteers who will assess your needs and develop a care plan with you designed to address your needs and recovery goals. They will teach you how to manage your symptoms and triggers. They will help you to improve your social issues and teach you resilience building skills. When they feel that you are robust enough to be able to participate, they will discuss a referral to a Thrive Group with you.

You will then be given an assessment with one of the Group Facilitators who will be able to answer your questions and provide more details about the group. They will also check your commitment at this stage, and you make the final decision about whether to opt in to attend or not. Do not be insulted by being asked about this. These groups are always oversubscribed, and we need to ensure that valuable places are not wasted by people dropping out.

If I attend a Thrive Group, will I not be able to access 1;1 therapy- not at all. If you need 1;1 therapy, you will receive it from one of our many excellent therapists who operate with a variety of different clinical approaches and have different skill sets.

Be brave, opt in and let a Thrive Group change your life for the better.
