Red Kite Equalities Policy

Aim of the Equality and Diversity Policy

This policy demonstrates Red Kite Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Service’s commitment to delivering equality and tackling discrimination within the organisation. The policy should be considered as part of a suite of policies including Fairer Recruitment, Whistleblowing and Grievance.

Responsibility for the Policy

The overall responsibility for ensuring that the aims and intentions of this policy are delivered rests with the Board of Trustees but the responsibility for ensuring it is enacted rests with the Secretary of the Board.

Different types of discrimination

The policy covers all types of discrimination listed under the ‘protected characteristics’- age, sex, race, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, gender reassignment and religion.

Red Kite will make reasonable adjustments to ensure that nobody who has the potential to undertake a role is prevented from doing so due to a lack of adjustments.

Red Kite follows a process of fairer recruitment to ensure that there is no discrimination during recruitment or employment.

Types of discrimination:

Direct- wilfully depriving a colleague or employee of an opportunity or benefit.

Indirect-being less than transparent with certain individuals about opportunities or benefits available.

Victimisation- treating a colleague or employee less favourably after they have raised a complaint or concern.

Disability- failing to make reasonable adjustments to enable a disabled person to undertake a role within the organisation.
